IntroductionThis page will be progressively added to until it is complete. The intention is to provide a reading plan that will provide the reader with a good idea of the contents of the Old Testament, by selecting passages from all parts to give a good continuous narrative of God's dealing with His own chosen nation. There will be a minimum of comment, certainly the reader should regard the text as speaking for itself. Choose the version that suits you best, whether a traditional translation or a modern one. I prefer the New International Version myself, but the New King James Version is a good compromise between traditional language and greater accuracy through all the research that has gone on since 1611 (the date of the orinigal KJV). Where I need to give quotations I will use the NKJV or the NIV. Each Passage will be given a title. and ideally each passage should be read at a sitting.
GenesisGenesis 1:1 - 2:4a (ends at ... This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created) Note: Genesis has several original documents combined into one narrative, a fact not always noted by translators, each ending with a retrospective title in the formula 'this is the history of ...' You will see that the passages set here all end with a similar phrase. Genesis 2:4b (from 'In the day that the Lord made the earth and the heavens') - Genesis 5:1a (to 'This is the book of the genealogy of Adam') Genesis 6:1 - 10:1 Genesis 12:1 - 15:20 Genesis 16:1-21; 21:1-7; 22:1-19; 25;7-11 Genesis 25:19-34; 27:1 - 28:5 Genesis 28:10 - 35:29 Genesis 37:2b - 50:26 |
